Best of The British: Part 1

2008-12-03 Everyone down at Freeride HQ loves to see new British skiers and snowboarders coming through to the international scene. So, for a while we're going to be interviewing all of the best ones! First out is the brilliant freestyle skier Joe Murrell. You can see a video of his Pistol Flip here too!

Joe, You're a really up and coming rider but when did you start skiing?
I was around 4 -5.

What pushes you to go further in this crazy sport?
The constant feeling that I've haven't reached my limits!

So you're pretty insane.....whats your scariest moment?
When I was driving between Tigne and Val D'isere, it was dark and my car started sliding on some black ice, the car did a 180 and started going the wrong way round the round about, I was so scared a little bit of poo came out!

Bloody hell! Please tell me you're joking about the poo?
Yeah....

So what plans you got for this season?
Unfortunately this summer I overshot a kicker ruptured my anterior Crusiate ligament in my knee. I had surgery in August so I'm going to have to sit most of this season out. Doing physio everyday and that's going really well, so fingers crossed will get a couple of weeks at the end of the season.

Ah, thats crap. So what you up to instead?
Well I didn't want to have a wasted year sitting on the couch watching films so I've decided to go to University for a year in Bristol. I'm studying media practice and making lots of films.

Good shout! So being a student, ever been arrested?
I got arrested at Reading festival during a riot. I chucked an open bottle of ketchup at a police officer, not knowing there were loads more of them behind me. I managed to escape a couple of minutes later when they weren't looking, I just ran for my life and they couldn't catch me.

Brilliant! What a rebel. Finally, any shout-outs you want to do?
All my sponsors, Oakley, K2, Skull Candy, YOKI. All the guys I ride and have fun with, my parents are pretty cool as well, I'll give them a shout out.

Europe or North America: Tough question, for park North America but I love the pow skiing all round Europe.

Trees or Big faces: Trees are defiantly more up my street. Having a split second to decide your line through the trees is an exciting feeling.
