Best of The British: Part 2

2008-12-16 This week we are profiling the young James "Woodsy" Woods. An awesome rider who lives for skiing and really showed up the world elite at the London FIS Event. The Freeride Crew got to hang out with him there and realised that not only can he jump pretty good, he's not a bad lad! Check out this latest interview right here, and only here!

Name: Woodsy - James Woods
DoB: 19/01/1992
Hometown: Sheffield
Based in: Mayrhofen
Equipment: Salomon (Hard wear)

Hey Woodsy. You're a really up and coming freestyle skier and we reckon you'll get to the level of like Jon Olsson and Tanner Hall. When did all this start for you? Haha, thanks! My first ski lesson was at Sheffield Ski Village (Big dryslope in Sheffield...strangely enough) when I around 9/10 years old, but it wasn't untill a bit later on that started skiing alot. I began racing, and moved on through mogules and onto Newschool freestyle. From there I started competing a low levels and basically just worked my way up.

What pushes you to go further? The enjoyment of the sport mostly. It's incredible how much enthusiasum is around this. There are loads people all over, super motitvated and excited to see where freeskiing/ snowboard heading.
Also when I teach others who are genuenly trying real, it gets me so pumped to push myself too.

Scariest moment? Well, one of them - I was riding this pretty gnarley, very steep line through some dense trees, when I got tangled up in one tree and got totally stuck. To one side of me there was a stupidly large drop and to make it worse I could feel my leg being twisted around me, my buddy had to rescue me or I'm pretty sure I'd have broken my leg (Cheers Mikey!).

Not bad, at least you didn't claim to poo yourself like Joe. What are your plans for this season? I'm based in Mayrhofen and am going to travel around a bit to compete, yeah, and just see where it takes me.

What would you be doing if you weren't doing this? At school, being a real teenager!

Real teenage eh? Must have been arrested then? No - but close, I've had to get my running shoes on a couple of time though.

Finally, any shout-outs you want to do? Hey to all my mates, and thanks to everyone who has help out getting here.

Thanks Woodsy, and good luck with the season!
Quickfire round:

Jagerbomb or Beer: oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo - Tuffy!

Clubs or bars: Clubs

5 Celebs you want to punch in the face: No one - Peace! (Bruce Forsyth)
